The City of Smiles Part 1

Last May 3 – 9, along with my cousins & a friend, went to The City of Smiles a.k.a Bacolod City. My mom wondered why we decided to go to Bacolod since “there’s not much to do”. We chose Bacolod because 1.) a new place – mom kept on telling me to go to Iloilo instead but I told her lots of times that we wanted to see another place and explore it properly. I’ve been to Iloilo loads of times since my mom originated there & we have a house in Lapaz City, 2.) FREEDOM – every time I go to Iloilo, I don’t get to experience that much freedom & I knew that if I brought my cousins (dad side) & my friend to Iloilo, we might not have that much freedom.

DAY 1, MAY 3

Our flight to Bacolod was around 6:10 am & we arrived in the airport around 3:30 am. Too early, right? We decided to check-in early since we knew that there will be a lot of people who will be checking in with us as well. It’s better to be early than being late. After we checked in our bags, we decided to have early breakfast in Wendy’s.

Taken around 4am in the morning & being sabaw since we lacked sleep (this is how excited we were) & in order to take this photo, we used a monopod & took away our shyness (thank goodness there were only a few people in there).

When we were done having our breakfast, we decided to go in & find our gate number so that everything would be fixed. Around 7am (since our flight got delayed. ANNOYING), off we flew to Bacolod.

We arrived Bacolod around 8am and since check-in time in GoHotel was around 2pm, we decided to go around “The City of Smiles” & get to learn more about this wonderful place. The first destination we went to is called The Capitol Grounds & Lagoon. This park is located along Lacson St. and there are things you can do there like jogging and feeding fishes. Seen in this place is the original capitol grounds that up to now, it still stands as it is. I’m glad that it still stayed the same and nothing changed. The beauty of the capitol grounds remained as it is. Places surrounding the park are the Bacolod Museum, Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation and other government buildings.

Backpacker feelz

We decided to pass time by going to Felicia’s. Felicia’s a known pastry and dine restaurant in Bacolod City. They serve different kinds of food but what we mainly focused in this restaurant is their pastries since we were still full from our Wendy’s. Their desserts were the bomb ! (But of course, nothing can still beat Calea). Since we wanted to try different kinds of desserts, we decided to order each of what they have to offer. I ordered their chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was not that sweet. It was just at the right amount that you would want to crave it all the time. I could actually feel the dark chocolate icing melt in my mouth. One of my cousin’s ordered the strawberry macaroon & it was just at its right taste. Good thing we decided to share because servings were big ! Another good factor with Bacolod is their price when it comes to food. The prices were great (cheap compared to MNL pricing)

Pastries galore

Our orders

The next stop was the Bacolod National Museum. This was placed in our agenda because we wanted to know a lot of things on what Bacolod has to offer. We discovered a lot of historical figures for Bacolod. Because of this museum, I fell in love with what this city has to offer.

Old books & the like

Past government officials of Bacolod City

The next destination was Pope John Paul II Tower. We were curious as to what this tower has to offer about Pope John Paul. Basically, it has information regarding Pope John Paul II. This is a perfect place for strong Catholic believers to reminisce about Pope John Paul II, pray for him & enjoy the scenery at the topmost of the tower.

My cousins & my friend !

After a tiring walk around the city, since it was almost 2pm, we decided to have lunch at Pala-Pala. Pala-Pala is a seafood restaurant wherein you are allowed to get as much as food as you want that is widely shown to costumers. Once we have our order, we would just tell the waiter what we want then they will bring your food to your table. After a hearty lunch, since it was around 2pm, we decided to go back to the hotel to fix what is needed and to bring in our bags and have a little bit of rest.

Come round dinner time, we had it in an inasal place restaurant (forgot what it’s called but according to my cousin, it is one of the best and it has been in Bacolod for a long time already). What I ordered were 2 isol and 1 pecho. I really thought that their servings would be the type in Manila – small and easy to finish that’s why I ordered 2 isol. But boy I was wrong ! Once the orders arrived, they were huge that I wasn’t able to finish my other order of isol!

BIG!!!!!

After having some hearty dinner, we decided to have a bit of fun with some booze. We stayed out late til 1am then went back to the hotel for a new adventure.

Okay then ! Part 1 of my adventure in Bacolod will end for now ! It took me a while to finish this part of my blog since I kept on getting out of the house and enjoying my life while I am currently jobless HAHAHAHA.

If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the trip or about my blog, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below ! I would very much appreciate that.
